Topic: "Date-Setting: What Can We Know?"
Presented: 9:00-10:00 am

I have a friend who is positive that although he doesn't know the day, he does know the time of day that the Lord will return. He points out that 1 Thessalonians 5:2 which says that the Lord will come, "…in the night." I've tried to point out to him that the entire metaphorical phrase is, "…like a thief in the night," and argued that unless the Lord's coming is very gradual across the globe, at least half of the world will see Him arrive during the daytime. Yes, that's pretty much a given. I've also emphasized that the entire phrase itself is meant to communicate the nature of the Lord's return to an unsuspecting world. Obviously, the metaphor breaks down if we focus instead on the word thief.

The Lord will come, "…like a thief in the night." Why is that? It's because Jesus clearly contrasted Himself with a literal thief who only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But, our Lord came, and still comes into our own hearts and lives that we may have life, and have it abundantly.

The timing of the Lord's return is the subject of a great and passionate debate and is the subject matter for us. Let me start by saying that aside from my friend's conviction, no legitimate student of Scripture or Bible Prophecy teacher would claim to know the day and time of the Lord's return.

Topic: "The Rapture: Pre, Mid, Late or Post Trib?"
Presenting: 10:30-11:30 am

I believe that there are three passages that are the three pillars of the Rapture. Do you mind if I get biblical with you right now? Is that okay? These three pillars are 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; John 14:1-6; and 1 Corinthians 15:51-55. Let's take a look at pillar number one first.

"The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words."

Don't you love that passage of scripture? I do. The Greek word for caught up here means "to seize upon with force, to snatch up." My friends, the Rapture is not going to be some kind and gentle rising up into the sky. It is going to be a sudden, immediate seizing of us by the Lord so that we meet him instantly, just like that. It's going to be an awesome thing!

Topic: "Heaven: Ethereal or Literal?"
Presenting: 1:00-2:00 pm

What happens when you die? Again, I know the answer to that, and the reason I know is not because I have died, but because I read the Bible. The first thing you need to understand is that when you die you will indeed go to be with Jesus Christ. You will go to what some theologians call an Intermediate Heaven. Intermediate meaning temporary. It's not the full complete package. You're only in a certain degree in the place you'll be for eternity. Paul put it this way in 2 Corinthians 5:8, "to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord." Philippians 1:23, "For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better."

Question: Do you really believe that? Because, if you do, you will rejoice over your loved ones who are there. You may grieve over missing them. That's fine. That's legitimate. But, you'll also have the joy of knowing they are happier than they've ever been. They are more peaceful than they've ever been. Life is better for them than it's ever been. "It's far better," says Paul.

Topic: "The Millennium: Literal or Symbolic?"
Presenting: 2:30-3:30 pm

Human government will be no more and it will be replaced by what's called the Kingdom of Christ. What is this Kingdom of Christ? I'm going let Cotton Mather explain it to you. Cotton Mather was a Puritan pastor in New England during the late 1600's to early 1700's. Cotton explained the Kingdom of Christ as the "Three-fold Kingdom of Christ, with a Fourth Yet to Come."

The first fold is a Spiritual Kingdom and he described it as where "grace rules over the consciousness of men." There is a Spiritual Kingdom of Christ and it rules over the consciousness of men. There is also the Providential Kingdom "wherein Christ's government is over all the affairs and motions of the world." In other words, God is sovereign. The third fold is an Ecclesiastical Kingdom "wherein Christ appoints and prospers the ordinances of a Church state." In other words, Christ rules through His body, the Body of Christ, which is the Church. But, Cotton said there is a fourth fold yet to come, and that's called the Davidic Kingdom. He said "that belongs unto our Lord Jesus Christ." So, when I talk about the Kingdom of Christ, I'm actually talking about all four of those aspects.

Dr. David ReaganDr. David Reagan
Topic: "The Nature of Hell: Literal or Symbolic?"
Presenting: 4:00-5:00 pm
www.lamblion.com

Let me begin with a question. How long has it been since you heard a sermon on Hell? I've been going to church all my life since the time I was born, and I can remember only one sermon I have ever heard on Hell, and I heard that recently. I was really surprised when I heard it. Hell is the unmentionable topic in Christendom. Today that's easy to understand because many churches have become captivated with the Seeker Sensitive Movement, and they would therefore consider it politically incorrect to mention an unpleasant topic like Hell.

What about historically? Why has Hell been an ignored topic? Why has its very mention been silenced in the churches? I'll tell you what I believe. I believe it's because the concept as traditionally taught is an embarrassment to the Christian community. After all, it is very difficult to portray the Creator as a God of love, grace and mercy, and then turn around and argue that He intends to torture the great group of humanity forever and ever and ever.

Does the Bible really teach eternal torment? And if not, where did the idea come from? And, if it does not teach eternal torment, then what does it teach about the nature of Hell?
